Personally, I am a big fan of websites that work on several levels. For example, navigation menus that give you the impression of moving through space and time or online gadgets with a direct effect to the real life. Of course, the element of surprise is important to create such effects as unexpected events have the enormous power to trick our mind.

Here is a wonderful example of a concept that plays with the unexpected: I want to see a ghost.
