and it goes on …

the discussions about the thoughts of jonathan harris’ talk.
there are a lot of black and white - good and bad - posts around. we still have problems to go left or right, actually what was said in this talk had some good points. some well known like “do your own thing”, “personal is powerful” or “go outside”. other statements - especially about masterpieces and if they are relevant in 25 years - well, that’s another topic. what is a masterpiece? am i allowed to call my piece of work a masterpiece, do i have to wait till it will be found in a museum or people and the media hype and name it a “masterpiece”? this will lead into this neverending complex discussion about what is art and what is (only) design…

how the statements came down the stage in brighton - hmmm - we also had our problems to put our emotions back and focus on the content.

concerning idea vs experimentation and tinkering. again - we think it’s not just black and white. ideas make a project powerful, but in our opinion the idea doesn’t have to be always visible. there are a lot of (our personal) masterpieces around which are at first sight just “beautiful” and the concept and idea are not obvious from the very first moment. the viewer/user has to push oneself to learn more about the concept behind the piece of work - it’s not the main visible part of the endproduct. and without experimentation a lot of ideas wouldn’t have been born and couldn’t grow. so - both aspects are important for the design process and should be in harmony instead of fighting each other.
